Real Family Experience with Hook’d Sport Fishing

A full day of memories, smiles, and real fishing experiences in Costa Rica. Did you know there are two main types of fishing in Guanacaste? One is inshore fishing, close to the coast and perfect for families and kids. The other is deep sea fishing, offshore in deeper waters for anglers looking for bigger challenges.

If you are a mom planning a surprise, a family that loves the ocean, or travelers looking for a fun and safe fishing experience, this story is for you.

At Hook’d Sport Fishing, we don’t just offer fishing charters — we create unforgettable days on the water.

Two Types of Fishing in Costa Rica: Inshore & Deep Sea

Inshore Fishing (Near the Coast)

Inshore fishing takes place close to the shoreline, usually in calmer waters. This option is ideal for:

  • Families with children

  • Firs

    t-time anglers

  • Groups looking to combine fishing and snorkeling

  • Seniors or guests with limited mobility

On a half-day fishing charter, you can enjoy a relaxed pace, beautiful coastal scenery, and plenty of action.

Common inshore species you can catch in Guanacaste include:

  • Barracuda

  • Jack Crevalle (Jurel)

  • Roosterfish

  • Snapper

  • Mackerel

These fish are strong, fun to catch, and perfect for introducing kids and young anglers to

sportfishing.

A Real Family Fishing Day in Playa Flamingo & Potrero

Some fishing days are about numbers.Others are about memories. This one was definitely about memories.

Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming Andon’s family, a group of eight people made up of parents, kids, and a senior family member who was excited, but also needed comfort and easy access. From the very beginning, we knew this day had to be smooth, safe, and fun for everyone.

To make that happen, we decided to split the family into two boats, allowing each group to enjoy the experience at their own pace.

Marina Flamingo – Comfort and Easy Access

One group boarded at Flamingo Marina with Captain Diego, a local captain who knows these waters like the back of his hand. This boat was the perfect choice for the family’s father, as Flamingo Marina offers excellent accessibility.

The smooth docks, professional marina staff, and safe boarding made getting on the boat easy and stress-free. Once aboard, the ride was calm and comfortable, exactly what you want when fishing with seniors or guests with limited mobility.

Out on the water, the action didn’t take long. The highlight of the day was catching Barracuda, a fast and aggressive inshore predator that always gets the adrenaline going. Every strike brought smiles, excitement, and that moment when everyone gathers around to celebrate the catch.

Playa Potrero – Inshore Action and Big Smiles

At the same time, the second group launched from Playa Potrero aboard our friend boat, Jessica Dawn, captained by Edwin, a fisherman with a more traditional style and deep local knowledge of these waters.

This group was ready for action, and the ocean delivered.

Fishing the inshore waters the way locals have done for generations, they hooked into Jack Crevalle, known locally as Jurel. This fish is famous for its powerful runs and nonstop fight, making it a favorite for both beginners and experienced anglers. With rods bent and reels screaming, everyone took turns feeling the raw strength of the fish, cheering each other on with every run.

You could hear the excitement echoing across the water, pure joy, laughter, and that shared adrenaline that only fishing can bring.

Two boats, two locations, one unforgettable family experience—true Guanacaste-style

fishing, shared the traditional way.
